Vice President for University Safety
Rocco (Rocky) DelMonaco, Jr. was appointed Vice President for University Safety in June 2007. As Vice President for University Safety, DelMonaco is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of all safety and security functions and programs at the main campus, medical and law centers, and overseas locations.DelMonaco has more than 30 years of operational and managerial experience in domestic and international law enforcement, intelligence, counter terrorism, protection and risk management. Prior to coming to Georgetown, DelMonaco served as an independent consultant and senior executive with ManTech SMA, a large government contractor for law enforcement, counter terrorist training and homeland security issues. He also served at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where he oversaw the integration of threat monitoring and strategic responses by DHS and other Federal agencies and served as Special Agent in Charge of the liaison division of the Federal Air Marshal Service.
He also held a variety of responsibilities during more than 20 years as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service, where, among other things, he supervised the White House Joint Operations Center coordinating protective operations to protect the President and White House complex, led the Counter Assault Team at specially designated national security events including the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle and the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, and served as an instructor for new agents. He also has extensive experience handling criminal investigations.
DelMonaco began his career as a police officer with the Miami-Dade County, FL school system and in the communities of Hollywood, FL and Santa Monica, CA. He holds a Masters of Public Administration from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami, which he attended on a U.S. Air Force ROTC scholarship. He also served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force.
DelMonaco is affiliated with several national associations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fraternal Order of Police, National Tactical Officers Association and Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.
